Kennesaw State helping children enhance their literacy skills

Sanjuana Rodriquez, an associate professor of reading and literacy education at Kennesaw State University, sees herself in many of the schoolchildren who are participating in the Bagwell College of Education’s annual Fast Start Academy. During the four-week summer camp, which runs through Friday, Kennesaw State students and faculty members provide tutoring and educational activities for children in grades 2-6 who are below grade level in reading.

Kennesaw State professor dedicated to diversity in education

Tristan Glenn had an “aha” moment during a demonstration of the Bagwell College of Education’s avatar laboratory. The lab utilizes mixed-reality technology to simulate scenarios teachers can encounter through interactions with digital avatars of students that all have their own unique personalities. Glenn, an associate professor of special education in the BCOE’s Department of Inclusive Education, participated in a simulated parent-teacher conference.

Georgia education leader named dean of Kennesaw State's Bagwell College of Education

Kennesaw State University has appointed Adrian Epps as dean of the Bagwell College of Education, effective May 15. Epps, a recognized education leader in Georgia, has served as interim dean of the Bagwell College since May 2020, and also was an associate dean in KSU’s College of Science and Mathematics from 2007 to 2019. Epps also served as interim provost and vice president of academic affairs at Dalton State College from 2019 to 2020.

Kennesaw State students find continued success in Coca-Cola Scholarship program

Prior to enrolling at Kennesaw State University, first-generation student Kamille Suarez-Paulino said there were few people who could offer guidance for her college career. Now a third-year student in The Coca-Cola First Generation and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholars program, the economics major wears her first-generation status as a badge of pride. Suarez-Paulino is one of 35 students who have benefited from the program made possible by a $1.25 million donation from The Coca-Cola Foundation.

NSF grant to help Kennesaw State address need for computer science teachers

Kennesaw State University computer science professor Dan Lo and mathematics education associate professor Brian R. Lawler have been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to help meet the increasing demand for computer science teachers in grades 6-12.

Georgia Power Foundation grant to help KSU boost number of Black male educators

Kennesaw State University has received a grant from Georgia Power for an initiative to increase the number of African American male teachers. Call Me MISTER (Mentors Instructing Students Toward Effective Role Models), a program launched in KSU’s Bagwell College of Education, will provide academic support, mentorship, tuition assistance and job placement assistance to promote success among Black male teacher candidates.

Student finds a community, feels at home at KSU

Education researchers receive grant to address race literacy in elementary schools

Kennesaw State University elementary teacher educators and researchers Sohyun An and Scott Ritchie of the Bagwell College of Education are working to help elementary school teachers conduct meaningful classroom discussions about social issues and the impact that racism can have on their students.
